How to back up WordPress to a Synology NAS

Although you can use UpdraftPlus to back up directly to your NAS device using the S/FTP protocol, for security reasons we recommend a different approach with Synology Cloud Sync.

What is Cloud Sync?​

Cloud sync enables you to connect and synchronise your Synology NAS to UpdraftPlus supported cloud services such as BackBlaze, Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive and many more.

This makes it possible for you to securely store your WordPress website backups on your NAS device without compromising on security.

How does it work?​

  • Connect UpdraftPlus to a cloud storage provider such as Google Drive, Dropbox or any other compatible remote storage.
  • After your backup takes place, the files are sent to your cloud storage provider.
  • Your backup files are automatically synchronised with your NAS device in a secure manner using Synology Cloud Sync.
